WHO I AM
I currently serve as Vice President of the Hamilton Township Board of Education, and I am asking to be reelected to the Board. I am running on the “Mothers. Leaders. Advocates.” slate along with Meaghan Stanton and Denise Soto.
I am a full-time working mother to two HTSD middle school students. In addition to serving as a board member, I am a dedicated volunteer for other community organizations. I lead two different Girl Scout troops as well as other Girl Scout volunteer efforts. I am a licensed attorney practicing in New Jersey’s state and federal courts. I also am a frequent legal lecturer through professional organizations, teaching subjects including technology and ethics, both of which apply to serving on this Board.
WHY I AM RUNNING
I am aware of the issues many HTSD working parents have, including the need for before-and-after care, transportation, and preschool. I want to continue to work with the HTSD administration to improve existing programs and how to introduce new ones–especially Universal Pre-K which, in our district, would mean finding space for 900 preschool aged students. While the district ran a highly successful summer camp again this summer, I want to continue to improve the program to accommodate the needs of working parents.
During this last term, the Board revamped its benefits offering teachers’ family benefits at Day 1. This was a substantial change in order to recruit the best talent. Notably, this year, Forbes Magazine named HTSD as the 64th best employer in America. In addition, the District has improved its support for all students through the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) that has led to improved student achievement. The District also released the MyRide bus app so parents do not have to worry about where their children are and can track their child’s bus. This past year, the District was recognized as a Lighthouse District for increasing equity and access in Advanced Placement courses.
Over the last six years, I have worked hard to meet my original campaign slogan of “Mother. Leader. Advocate.” When the public has raised issues of concern, I have within the scope of my authority as a Board member, worked with the administration to resolve concerns. I have offered creative solutions to problems. I have also attempted to bring divergent sides to agreement.
